Rock out tonight at Metro Chicago with Los Campesinos for just $20!

Critical Mass Monthly Bike Ride, which occurs the last Friday of every month, departs from Daley Plaza at Dearborn and Washington at 5:30 p.m. Participants just need to show up with a bike for free fun in any season.

Los Campesinos are at Metro tonight at 7:30 p.m. At just $20, it’s worth checking out the band!

Leave the kids at home and make it a wild evening at one of the burlesque shows at Gorilla Tango Theatre. Head to Wicker Park to see an alternative version of Super Mario, Star Trek and Indiana Jones.

Snow Days Chicago offers fun for everyone at Navy Pier’s Gateway Park today, tomorrow and Sunday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Watch as teams of sculptors compete to create magical statues entirely out of snow and ice. Additional activities include dog sled racing demonstrations and a snowboard rail jam competition.

The New Fat Eddie's!

After two weeks of Fat Eddie’s being relocated to two small conference rooms, the ribbon was cut for the re-opening of Hyatt Regency Chicago’s employee cafeteria. Fat Eddie’s officially re-opened Saturday, February 21 for meal service for all employees. The place looks amazing! New features include:

• New ceiling
• New lighting
• Walls were dry-walled
• New wood flooring
• New drink machines
• New chairs
• Additional bar-style seating along wall
• New computer area and additional computer
• New area for the microwaves

The Chinese dragon decorations were amazing!

My New Year’s resolution is to do more stuff. In defining the rule, I decided that 2012 would be the year to say yes to events or activities I would otherwise disregard as tourist-y, cliché or a waste of time and money. Not to say I haven’t explored my fair share of trademark attractions since moving downtown, but my goal was to escape the monotony of the typical Chicagoan in the winter, i.e. work, gym, TV, bed.

Dragons at Adler after Dark in celebration of the Chinese New Year

Trying something new this week meant Adler after Dark at the Adler Planetarium. The event is held every third Thursday of the month. Last night’s theme was Chinese New Year with different fine arts performances from The Chinese Fine Arts Society. There were also a number of Chinese things for purchase and a specialty cocktail called Red Dragon (which was amazing!) Guests were allowedaAccess to just about the entire building, including Night Sky Live! in the Definiti Space Theater, where a star pro taught the constellations and reviewed all that knowledge you learned about space in 4^th grade.

The Chinese Arts Society at Adler after Dark featured unique gifts from the Chinese culture

Prior to the lesson, two talented musicians played traditional Chinese music on the erhu and guzheng. This was my favorite part of the evening as the chatty crowd went silent in awe of the amazing sound.

The planetarium did a fantastic job at incorporating the best they have to offer with the monthly theme. At just $12 to attend, I’d definitely be up for checking out February’s “The Finer Things” event on the 16^th. What events have you said “yes” to this year? Shamrock Shuffle 8K Race in Chicago

As the weather warms into spring, there’s no better reason to get outside with your gym shoes laced up. Kick off the running season downtown Chicago at the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K on March 25, 2012. The 4.97 miles run starts and finishes in Grant Park and will cost you $45. Michael Jordan, the leader of the Bulls Dynasty

Being a millennial, I grew up in the prime dynasty of the Chicago Bulls when Michael Jordan was king of all things pop culture. The Chicago Bulls were six-time champs (in just an eight year span) and a team to be worshipped and admired. I lost count of how many years in a row that my brother received a piece of memorabilia boasting Jordan, Pippin or Rodman’s name. He would put “Wanna be like Mike” on repeat and we’d dance around in our black and red gear from dusk til dawn.

The feelings the team name conjures up are still relevant and welcome. I’m sure some of you can relate. Airlines have canceled more than 425 flights at Chicago airports as a snowstorm swept across the region. The Chicago Department of Aviation said that more than 325 flights have been canceled at O’Hare International Airport and delays to and from the East Coast averaged 20 minutes.

Jamming at CBB

The Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival is celebrating its fourth year acknowledging our city’s “unprecedented roots music and culture.” Kingtello, Silver Wrapper and React Presents will host this year’s event at Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University (50 East Congress Parkway) spanning the last two Saturdays of January, with a performance at Subterranean to kick it all off on Friday, January 20.

The forty acts are split between the two weekends.

There will be several additional acts added to one of those line-ups. Listen to their tunes and be sure to vote for who you think deserves the spot in the Last Banjo Standing Contest. Hurry! The final decision will be made this Friday, January 13.
